The Equal Justice Initiative is committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.
As the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, Feeding America works to get nourishing food – from farmers, manufacturers and retailers – to people in need. At the same time, Feeding America also seeks to help the people they serve to build a path to a brighter, food-secure future.
Founded in 1982, Foodshare is the regional food bank serving Connecticut’s Hartford and Tolland counties, where more than 119,000 people struggle with hunger. Foodshare works to maximize access to nutritious food and other resources that support food security. And, because hunger is more than food, Foodshare collaborates with anti-hunger organizations, policy makers and the broader community to build effective solutions to end hunger.
The Goodman Community Center is Madison’s largest community center and offers programming for children from four years old through high school. In addition to youth and family services, the Center has a comprehensive Older Adults Program that provides meals, exercise classes and social activities that contribute to helping many maintain a healthy, independent lifestyle.
Hartford Public Library provides free resources that inspire reading, guide learning and encourage individual exploration.
Hartford Stage’s mission is to enlighten, entertain, and educate by creating theatrical works of the highest caliber that have a transformative impact on their audiences, community and field.
Harvesters is a regional food bank serving a 26-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. Harvesters provides food and related household products to more than 760 nonprofit agencies including emergency food pantries, community kitchens, homeless shelters, children’s homes and others. They also offer education programs to increase community awareness of hunger and teach about good nutrition.
The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans.
Since 1986, Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin has put more than 100 million meals on the tables of the 1 in 10 who are facing hunger in southwestern Wisconsin. Second Harvest is a member of Feeding America and works together with hundreds of local hunger-relief charities to provide the peace-of-mind people get when they know they have enough food.
